Suddenly Seventy: Letters from Positivity
Lisa Zigarmi wrote the following note to my wife, Tracy, during our anniversay, celebrating 41 years together. Tracy was recovering from a broken wrist she experienced in an ice storm in Portland, OR the previous February:
Dear Tracy,
It made my heart skip to see your name in my inbox. How is your wrist healing?
Thank you for reaching out. I’ve been missing you AND I’ve been navigating some health challenges myself, as well as working to move my dad up to Lake Oswego. There’s too much to catch up on over email, but I would adore a long lunch with wine (or tea), where we could share deep-presence.
We’re gone June 30 – July 10. We’re home the rest of the summer. What works for you given your family travels? If you send me the weeks you’re in town, I can throw out some dates / times for your response.
P.S. Thank you for sharing your joys (Olympic Trials with Margaret, anticipating spending time with Ma Mere) and challenges (health) with me. I appreciate the full picture.
My dad’s move is very positive and also complicated. I can share more when we’re together. My health challenges are resolving, although I’ve been sick for 3+ months.
I am sorry to hear that Henry as he hits his 70’s is uncomfortable with his current body conditions / limitations. It is hard to let go of cherished beliefs / identities, even when the world is offering us new ways to look at ourselves. My dad is facing many of the same discomforts. I have been there myself. It is a constant shedding of what is no longer appropriate in order to relate gracefully with what is.
I can hear the inspiration that is flowing through you re: the Olympic Trials. It is always so beautiful to see people at their highest / best. It is also so tender to see them in their humanity, when things don’t go as they hoped. Athletics has been a huge teacher in my life.
I’m so happy to hear that you’ve experienced steady progress on your wrist AND it sounds like you’ve been an exceptional patient. I look forward to learning more about what this experience has taught you.
